MailYourSharps: Operating Instructions for Silver Recovery

Operating Instructions:

  1. Retain shipping box and supplies for recycling shipping.
  2. Remove and retain side plug on unit.  Lay unit on side.  Fill lower chamber with water to its maximum capacity.
  3. Insert black plug of discharge tube assembly securely into side hole using a firm twisting motion.
  4. Place unit upright, near drain or sink.  Keep discharge tube pinch clamp valve closed.
  5. Place end of discharge tube into a sink, a drain or a containment vessel for disposal, if required.
  6. Remove top lid of unit by pulling upward.  Pour USED FIXER (originally water) into top of unit.  Fill one-half inch from top.
  7. Replace top lid.
  8. Open discharge tube pinch clamp valve.  Top tank will slowly drain with a dripping action, taking several hours.  Should orifice or filter become clogged, close pinch clamp valve, remove orifice and clean with wire provided and/or replace cotton ball in filter tube.  Filter tube may be firmly squeezed to initiate flow.
  9. Refill unit as needed, recording quantities processed on checklist on this unit.  Each fill equals approximately 1 gallon.
  10. Monitor silver discharge levels utilizing silver test strips provided.  USED FIXER CAN BE REPROCESSED THROUGH UNIT IF NECESSARY TO MEET specific discharge compliance limits.
